What Recklip records
Only when you press Start recording, and only in the tab you chose:
- The tab's picture and sound.
- Your microphone, only if you turn it on.
- Mouse position, clicks, scroll, and when you type in a field. Used for auto-zoom and click effects.
- Labels of what you clicked (button text, field label, the option you pick in a dropdown), where it is on screen, page address without the query string, and page title. Used for step callouts, chapters, and the step-by-step guide.
- Where private fields are on screen (position only). Used to suggest blurs, and to blur them in guide screenshots.
Recklip does not save what you type or what is in a field, unless you turn on Typed text in guides (off by default). Then a guide step keeps what a field held when you finished typing, so it can say "Enter customer name: Acme Ltd". Password, payment, bank, and code fields are never saved or described, with the setting on or off: Recklip only notes that one was filled in.
Where it is stored
Everything is stored on your computer, inside your browser (IndexedDB and extension storage). Recklip has no server and does not upload, sell, or share your data. Removing the extension deletes all recordings.
What leaves your computer
- Files you export or download yourself (MP4, original video, project zip, and the guide as a PDF or Markdown).
- If you open an "Open in Recklip" link, Recklip downloads that project file from the link to open it. Nothing is uploaded.
No analytics, no ads, no trackers.
Permissions
Recklip asks for tab capture, page access, and storage so it can record a tab, follow your clicks on that page, and keep recordings on your computer. It does not collect anything from pages you are not recording.
