What Recklip records
Only when you press Start recording, and only in the tab you chose:
- The tab's picture and sound.
- Your microphone, only if you turn it on.
- Mouse position, clicks, scroll, and when you type in a field. Used for auto-zoom and click effects.
- Labels of what you clicked (button text, field label), page address without the query string, and page title. Used for step callouts and chapters.
- Where private fields are on screen (position only). Used to suggest blurs.
Recklip never saves what you type or what is in a field. Password, payment, and card fields are never described.
Where it is stored
Everything is stored on your computer, inside your browser (IndexedDB and extension storage). Recklip has no server and does not upload, sell, or share your data. Removing the extension deletes all recordings.
What leaves your computer
- Files you export or download yourself (MP4, original video, project zip).
- If you open an "Open in Recklip" link, Recklip downloads that project file from the link to open it. Nothing is uploaded.
No analytics, no ads, no trackers.
Permissions
Recklip asks for tab capture, page access, and storage so it can record a tab, follow your clicks on that page, and keep recordings on your computer. It does not collect anything from pages you are not recording.
